Caretaking

Caretaking is our most popular way to get involved at Tail Town!

More cats mean more mouths to feed, numerous boxes to scoop, and laundry to wash. Caretakers focus on feeding and cleaning up after kitties. Tasks include preparing meals, scooping litter, sweeping, sanitizing surfaces, moving cat furniture, vacuuming, mopping, laundry, and cleaning up “accidents”.

Once all of the cat chores are checked off— caretakers get to focus on enrichment like playing and exercising the cats, socializing, cuddling, and spending time with their favorites.

Shifts run 2-4 hours, centered around meal times. Caretaking shifts are always done as team and duties shared.

Adoption Team

All of our cats are up for adoption; from kittens to adult bonded pairs, we try to find a kitty for nearly every situation with a very special focus on match-making.

Our team is made up of adoption counselors and run by a coordinator with our partner rescue. Adoption Counselors are onsite during open hours to introduce/identify cats, guide potential adopters, and layout the adoption process.

The team helps identify best matches and supports the adoption coordinator while prospective families prepare to welcome their new cat home.

Getting to know all the cats may take some time. Most adoption counselors start with a caretaking shift to focus on learning each cats’ energy level, personality, friends, etc.

Shifts run 4 hours and some cat experience preferred, but not required.

Socializing Cats

Experienced cat lovers and quiet cat enthusiasts are welcome on this short volunteer shift to help new and shy cats blossom. Socializers are assigned a short-list of kitties who need extra attention and affection.

This shift can be supplemental for trained caretakers or may be ideal for those who have trouble lifting or limited mobility.

Experience with scared cats and a good background in cat behavior required.

Shifts run 1-2 hours and are more flexible.

Other ways to help!

There are always some tasks that slip through the cracks, because… let’s face it, they don’t always involve the excitement of being around all cats!

However, we always need extra help with projects like big cleaning days, online and in-person marketing, inventory, driving cats to appointments, help with fundraising, assisting at events, light building maintenance, and so much more.

If you have a special skill set that you would like to share to support a dynamic cat non-profit, contact our executive director to discuss ideas!
